Mark’s birthday is today. Micah’s birthday is tomorrow. He only missed Mark’s birthday by 2 hours. I thought that sharing a birthday weekend would be kind of fun. Well…
First of all, Micah cannot WAIT for his birthday. This is the first year that he’s cared, and he’s been counting down the moments. He has had his party and his cake planned out for a month. Tomorrow is his big day…
This morning Micah was the first to wake up. I gave him a hug and told him, “Today is Daddy’s birthday! Give him a hug and wish him a happy birthday.”
Micah slowly walks over to Mark and bursts into tears. He fell on top of his daddy.
Hmmm. This wasn’t exactly what we were expecting. I asked Micah why he was so upset. He yells, “It’s MY birthday not DADDY’S birthday. I AM THE ONE TURNING 5.” He starts crying uncontrollably into Mark’s chest.
I told him, “You and Daddy have your birthdays together. Daddy’s is today, yours is tomorrow.”
Louder crying… “NO. It’s MY birthday.”
His screams wake up the girls who run in, one by one. Elena was first, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY.”
Micah cries louder.
Christina runs in, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DADDY.”
Even more crying.
Now we have to spell out the words happy birthday when we see Mark. If we do it while singing the birthday song, Micah goes into a funk. He’s convinced that Mark is stealing his birthday.
My suggestion is that if you have a baby and he or she is due around your birthday, make sure the baby is born BEFORE your birthday.
Priceless moment of the day: Mark was consoling Micah this morning and he told him, “It’s not my fault that my birthday is first–Mommy just didn’t squeeze you out in time…” H-A-P-P-Y B-I-R-T-H-D-A-Y Mark!
